alcohol ink paintings

I have been taking a little break from the gourds and have been working on some alcohol ink paintings! I really enjoy the fluid uncontrollable nature of the inks! After making the paintings on yupo paper I have been mounting them on wood substrates that I woodburned on. the last step is to cover them with resin! I am happy with the final result!!

I can also make prints of the paintings before they were mounted on the wood!
Let me know if any of these catches your eye!!
I also made owl #2 out of gourds and hornets nest paper!! He is still available!!

Harris's Hawk

This is my latest gourd which is quite large. The subject matter is a Harris's Hawk which I photographed last summer in Oregon at the high desert Museum. I loved the coloration of the bird and that is why I chose it as the subject for this gourd. The side with the full figure is carved. The geometric designs include different takes on a feather design. They are woodburned and carved.  I have been quite busy trying to get the gardens ready for planting and now mowing season has started so that is a big job around here! That leaves less time to work on art projects or plan classes. Hope everyone is enjoying the arrival of Spring!!

The cost is $48 and once again only room for 6. The first 3 to sign up get $5 off. You must pre register for this class so I can prepare the right number of gourds. call or email.

Beginner gourd class was a success!!

I think the gourd class turned out to be a fun and interesting day! I hope everyone there agrees!! They worked on the gourds which I had already cut and cleaned for a couple of hours and then we ate lunch while the paint dried a little. Everyone did such a beautiful job!!
After lunch we finished the alcohol dye on the body of the gourd and painted the finishing touches on the flowers! I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as I did!!
Here are the results of their efforts! They picked the colors wanted,  so they were all a little different!!
I am planning to do a class with a gourd birdhouse next. Anyone interested??

Offering a class for beginners

Now that the holidays are over and the long cold winter months start to drag on, I have decided to offer a fun class to brighten up the month of February! This beginner class will take place at my studio in Sandy Lake from 10 AM to about 2 PM on February 11th. I will supply a clean and cut gourd, use of all the tools and supplies needed to make this gourd, a light lunch, and lots of info on how to make a piece of art out of a gourd! You will leave with a completed gourd similar to the one in this picture! There is only room for 6 people so you must reserve your space by emailing me or calling. Pre payment is necessary so I can hold the space. In case of sickness or some other emergency you can get a refund or be scheduled for a later class. The cost for the class, gourd, and lunch is $75.00. Please get registered as soon as possible. If there is enough interest I will hold another class. This gourd would make a nice Easter or Mother's day gift!
