Santa gourd is done!

Here is my Santa gourd all finished! I named it “ A Gift for a Lifetime”! A puppy given at Christmas needs to be viewed as a lifetime commitment, not just a a novelty that will wear off before December is over! I am very happy with how this turned out and hope it finds a great home for the holidays! It is available for a little while on my Etsy shop but will then go to one of the galleries that carry my work! This is a ooak sculpture that can be an heirloom passed on in a family for years to come!

This is my entry at the Cranberry Artists Network Holiday Show! Show runs until December 20th!
“Sparkle” the cat is all dressed up for winter!
This gourd and clay sculpture of a harbor seal is listed on my Etsy shop! I have been neglecting my artwork a bit lately as we had wonderful visits from our kids and our 16 month old grandson! The house is way too quiet now☹️
Hope to get back to a Santa I started awhile ago!

On a roll with animal sculptures!

After the great response I received after I made the giraffe sculpture I decided to make some more gourd and clay animal sculptures! I stayed on the theme of endangered animals first and made an elephant and then a rhino! I am really having fun sculpting these creatures and have continued to make several  others!

These all started out with gourds and were sculpted using epoxy clay! If you would like to see more process photos check out my facebook or Instagram accounts and please like and follow my pages! @jodyneugebauergourds on Instagram The cat and lizard are currently sold but the bunny is in my etsy shop for sale. The others are going to some art shows.Hope you are all having a wonderful Spring!I am ready for some nice weather!

Of Earth and Sky

When I saw these gourds, I almost immediately saw a giraffe! So I got to work putting them together with a few cuts and holes drilled! I cut a butternut board for the base and attached the body to it!Next came some apoxie sculpt to join things together and painting some eyes on glass beads.

Once all the sculpting was done, I started painting with acrylics and attached horse hair eyelashes, ossicones, and mane and tail hairs! I used tail hair from my sweet Patty horse that I lost a couple of years ago!

After all that, I added some clay grass and flowers and stones to the base. Then varnished everything for the last touch! I am really happy with how it turned out and named it " Of Earth and Sky".There are some surprise spots on the giraffe that go with the title! I am thinking I will enter it into a couple art shows near here and if it doesn't sell there it will be offered online!
